Tournament Rules, Regulations and Format

  • All games will consist of 35-minute halves.  In the case of a tie after regulation time, teams will play two five minute overtime periods.  The golden goal format will be in effect.  If the tie remains, the referee will follow the regular FIFA format of penalty kicks to decide the winner.

  • Yellow cards will be cumulative.  Two yellow cards in any of a player’s first three games will mean that he will be forced to miss the next game.

  • A red card will mean that a player will automatically miss his team’s next game.  IF the foul is serious enough, as reported by the referee, the player may be suspended for the rest of the tournament.

  • Teams are responsible for their own first aid supplies, water, and warm-up balls.  An arrangement with the U of Ws’ Faculty of Kinesiology / Athletic Therapy Centre to have a athletic therapist at all games is currently being finalized.

  • Teams should bring along alternate jerseys or “pinnies”.

  • The round robin games must have a winner.  Points will be awarded on the following basis:  three points for a win in regulation time or in overtime; two points for a win on penalty kick shoot-out; one point for a loss in the penalty kick shoot-out.

    • In the case of ties within a group after the round robin, the following criteria will apply to decide the order of finish:

    • If two teams are tied, then the result in the game between the two.

    • If three to four teams are tied, then, the lowest number of goals allowed.

    • If a tie persists, goal differential (GF – GA)

    • If a tie still persists, a shoot-out between or among teams involved.

Note that a win on Penalty Kick shoot-out will count as a one goal victory.  Teams will not get for all the goals scored on penalty kicks.  So, if the score after regulation and overtimes is 0 – 0, the shootout winner will be awarded a 1 – 0 win and will get 2 points; the losing team will have lost 0-1 and will get one point.

  • There will be one award for the overall 1st place champion.

  • Each team will be provided with a locker and scan card during their respective games.

  • Note:  If all teams could please forward their roster to the tournament organizer by April 7, 2017 (i.mustapha@uwinnipeg.ca).  Please include all players’ names as well as all team coaches, assistants, managers, etc.  The persons’ included in these lists will the only individuals allowed on the field during the games.  All other individuals/spectators/fans/parents, etc. will be expected to view games from the balcony.
